REPLAY: Olivia Munn To Star In Close Quarters Action Sci-Fi In Vein Of ‘John Wick’ And ‘The Raid’
Former Attack Of The Show host Olivia Munn has risen to the occasion with a film and television resumè host to some notable acting credits in over a decade. This week, the Ride Along 2, X-Men: Apocalypse and The Predator actress is diving into a more primal action role in Replay with a press release now out as international sales agent, The Exchange, revs up its slate for the virtual Cannes market from June 22 through 26.
Deftly merging the frenetic, close-quarters action of JOHN WICK and THE RAID with the clever sci-fi storytelling of THE TERMINATOR, REPLAY is the story of Erin Staffer (Munn), whose husband is kidnapped and murdered. Now, armed only with illegal, bleeding edge tech and a desperate plan, Erin must do everything in her power to change the past and save him.
Replay is now in pre-production, and hails from The Exchange and Dark Castle Entertainment, with none other than writer and director Jimmy Lowree (Absence) at the helm. Munn is also adding her first producer credit with Replay, working alongside Dark Castle’s Ethan Erwin and Hal Sadoff, and co-producer Robert Bell.
The Exchange CEO, Brian O’Shea, and Dark Castle Entertainment made the announcement on Friday. CAA Media Finance is representing the domestic sales rights.
“We are very excited to announce Olivia Munn’s attachment to REPLAY. She not only is a wonderful actress, but also well known to our buyers which will help make this strong genre project very popular during the market,” said O’Shea of The Exchange.
“Audiences are going to witness the birth of the next great action star with Olivia Munn in this film. And our director, Jimmy Loweree, is an incredible young filmmaker, whose vision for this movie is going to blow people away,” said Erwin from Dark Castle.
Expect John Wick and The Raid to get tossed around as they’re both two of the biggest buzz titles to ever strike a nerve in the last ten years with the action fandom, many of whom going forward will obsess over a range of topics – from who the stunt and fight team involved will be, to the prospect of seeing Munn do her own stunts. The latter has especially been a point of interest since Munn made the X-Men franchise’s long-awaited live-action debut since the role of Psylocke in 2016’s Apocalypse.
Munn and Loweree are both represented by CAA, with additional representation for Munn by Atlas Artists and Jackoway Austen Tyerman Wertheimer Mandelbaum Morris Bernstein Trattner & Klein.
