Rodriguez's ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL Casts Rosa Salazar To Star
Late last year saw news that James Cameron and Lightstorm partner Jon Landau would produce an adaptation of Kishiro Yukito’s hit manga, Alita: Battle Angel, with Robert Rodriguez directing. Since then, the film had not been greenlit while an actress was still being sought after, including Maika Monroe, Disney Channel favorite Zendaya, and Rosa Salazar.
That was a few months ago, and now the word from THR is that Salazar, best known for her recent roles in The Divergent Series: Insurgent and The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, has been cast to star. Inspired by Kishiro’s 1990-1995 Shueisha manga, Salazar will play Alita, an amnesiac cyborg whose head is found by a scientist in a scrapyard in a dystopian future America, and refurbished as a battle-capable cyborg huntress named after the scientist’s cat.
Rodriguez’s other directing prospect includes an adaptation of Johnny Quest while Cameron himself is currently tasked with helming the sprawling slate of Avatar films through 2023. Details ahead!
