Director Ranjeet S. Marwa took to social media this week to reveal a raft of new stills from upcoming independent feature thriller, Rupture, which is still in post-production. The stills below feature actors David Lamont and Jay Bryhan among the cast, led by starring actor and martial artist Mark Strange.
The film is currently one of two that are in the pipeline for later this year going into 2022 with Marwa having toiled away at numerous projects between stops and starts in the last year and a half. Rupture filmed on location in Birmingham in the U.K. from early through the end of July, as the latest evolution of a project long in development, with Strange cast at the last minute.
“Mark was a perfect fit,” said Marwa, as he spoke with us on the actor’s work in comparison to other projects. “He’s been in some phenomenal movies, but he went above and beyond for his character, asking questions and always chiseling away at what he thought he could achieve with what Daniel and I had written on the pages for him.”
Marwa cites Ghost In The Shell and The Matrix as his two distinct influences for his dystopian cyberpunk setting in which Mark plays Raven, an ex-con bent on delivering justice to those who wrongfully sent him behind bars. Previously set in present-day terms, Rupture’s pivot to a sci-fi millieu also sets up a bit of interwoven mystique, connecting threads with one other films Marwa previously completed, Exiled: The Chosen Ones, which is still on par for a Southeast Asian debut.
“When people watch my previous movie Exiled they will notice the connections between the 2 movie.” he says. “I wanted to connect the worlds in a very small way and hopefully people will notice that.”
Shooting low budget feature films under pandemic conditions will never not have its challenges. With any luck and having surpassed his with the production of Rupture, Marwa can soon assert his viability as a director emerging even further in 2022.
