A new live-action novel adaptation is inbound this October with director Tsukuru Matsuki’s latest, Sakuya wa Yareta Kamo (昨夜は殺れたかも). The title otherwise translates to “I Could Have Killed You Last Night,” alluding to the work of authors Haya Fujiishi and Yume Tsujido whose novel became a hit in 2019.
On Halloween night, Mitsuhiro and Sakina shared a fateful encounter. They pretended to be just an ordinary salaryman and an ordinary office worker, but in reality, Mitsuhiro was a *yakuza* and Sakina was a *sharp-witted CEO*. After tying the knot, the couple lived a blissful married life that was the envy of everyone around them—all while keeping their true identities hidden from one another. However, a misunderstanding leads each of them to believe the other is having an affair… setting the stage for an unexpected and deadly battle to the finish.
Brazily Anne Yamada wrote the script which conveys the narrative in a relay format which tells the story from the perspectives of both lead characters; The cast is led by Hokuto Yoshino of Exile Tribe’s THE RAMPAGE, and Airi Suzuki in the respective roles of Mitsuhiro and Sakina.
Also starring are Asuka Kudo, Orin, Manami Satsukawa, ISSEI, Miku Tanaka, Orakio, and Junichi Komoto, along with Shun Sugata and Yasukaze Motomiya.
Sakuya wa Yareta Kano doesn’t have an official English title yet but granted that could change once it hits the festivals and the world sales floor. Pony Canyon will release the film in Japan on October 23.
