SCOTT PILGRIM vs. THE WORLD Gets A 10th Anniversary Theatrical Re-Release Via Dolby Cinema
I remember going to see The Expendables over Scott Pilgrim vs. The World during both their theatrical runs happening simultaneously. I never got to check out the film on the big screen before its theatrical releases ended and was even more disappointed that a sequel didn’t follow eight after.
The latter hasn’t really dimmed the cult fan fervor much in the years since then, and with the film getting an exclusive Dolby theatrical re-release soon, that fact is unlikely to change. Dolby launched its trailer on Wednesday with director Edgar Wright lending some lipservice of his own via social media, with Dolby announcing an April 30 release.
Based on Bryan Lee O’Malley’s serial 2004 graphic novel out of Oni Press, Wright’s alluring hodgepodge of quirky coming-of-age comedy and martial arts-infused action deals in themes of introspection and self-discovery, by way of whimsical mixes of video game and comic book-style spectacle. Michael Cera stars in the title role of Scott Pilgrim, a 22-year old slacker whose personal romantic indecisions thrust him into an all-or-nothing tournament to resuce the woman he loves from the captivity of her seven evil exes. Caught between two women and his priorities with his struggling indie garage band, it’s up to Pilgrim to unlock his true power if he’s to prove himself worthy of not only love, but self-respect.
Via Deadline: “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World was designed for the big screen and for the best sound systems,” said Wright in a statment. “To be able to see it with the best specs is obviously any filmmaker’s dream. You want people to see it as good as it could possibly be. I suspect that if you’re a fan of the movie, you’re going to get such a kick out of seeing it like this.”
Cera is joined by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Ellen Wong, Allison Pill, Chris Evans, Brandon Routh and Jason Schwartzmann, with Satya Bhaba, Mae Whitman, Mark Webber, Johnny Simmons, Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza, Brie Larson, Shota Saito and Keita Saito.
