“Do you like scary movies?”
While it feels weird to be talking about another installment in the Scream series and not be able to talk about Wes Craven’s part in it, here we are. Before talking about the newly released trailer, I have to say that one of my favorite con moments was attending a Scream panel at HorrorHound and listening to the cast tell stories about Craven. He may be gone, but his works live on.
Okay, enough sentimentality, let’s talk about the latest Scream film! It has been over ten years since Scream 4 was released, there have been talks about a fifth movie since 2011, and now, today, we have a trailer!
This movie brings back some of the original characters played by Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette and also introduces new characters who are being hunted by Ghostface. Who is it this time? How is this new killer linked to the original characters’ past?
One thing that the Scream series has done well is mix the horror clichés in with a bit of humor. This trailer shows the originally hunted telling the newly hunted about the rules of survival in horror films. What rules will this new installment break or bend? And seriously, who is Ghostface this time!? I can’t believe I have to wait until April 2022 to find out.
