SHALLOW: Zhuo Tan Punches Her Way Back In The Official Trailer For Emily Tang’s Fourth Film

It’s been a decade since the festivals have seen anything from filmmaker Emily Tang, whose career has otherwise seen some ample ceremony dating back to her reception at Locarno for her 2001 feature debut, Conjugation. Her two follow-ups, Perfect Life (2008) and All Apologies (2012) have both received awards and now the decorated director is making a return to the arena with underdog fight drama, Shallow.

The film previously screened for the 12th Macau International Movie Festival in 2020 where co-star Hairong Tian was awarded the Golden Lotus Award for Best Supporting Actress. She joins leading lady Zhuo Tan (Sheep Without A Shepherd, The Bravest, Wrath Of Silence) who plays a down-and-out boxer and struggling mother who once lost it all on a whim, and is now on the comeback trail with the help of a grisled coach, played by Tian Yu (Pegasus, Legend Of The Demon Cat).

Shallow opens in mainland theaters on April 30.
