SONG OF THE SOUTH: A Classic Boyhood Epic Makes Way For The Big Screen In Vietnam This October

Late author Doan Gioi’s 1957 novel is now the subject of a new iteration headed for the big screen with period drama, Song Of The South. The official trailer is live as of last week signaling the latest from director Nguyen Quang Dung whose credits partly include The Lady Assassin, 2015 action comedy Super X, and 2020 comedy drama Blood Moon Party.

Song Of The South is set during the French occupation, and centers on a young boy named An (Huynh Hao Khang) who sets off on a touching and harrowing journey to find his father after losing his mother in a deadly riot. Actors Tuan Tran, Hong Anh, Bui Ly Bao Ngoc, Do Ky Phong, and Mai Tai Phan also star from a script by Tran Khanh Hoang.

The new film also marks a reunion of sorts with several hands on board for the pic which succeeds the 1997 drama which ran for 11 episodes also based on the book. That includes Nguyen Vinh Son, who wrote and directed the television series, now serving as a consultant on the new film which has an October 20 release in Vietnam from Galaxy Studio.

Check out a trailer below, and also take a gander at a behind-the-scene look at some of the action permeating one of the co-stars.
