SPLIT SECOND: Eat Your Heart Out This August With MVD And 101 Films’s Release Of This Rutger Hauer Action Classic

MVD Entertainment is proudly announcing an August 11, 2020 release for the high-definition “Ultimate Collector’s Edition” Blu-Ray debut release of the 1992 cult action horror, Split Second, in association with 101 Films.

The film is pretty messy, but very stimulative flick and holds its own, with a cast led by the late Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner, The Hitcher), actress Kim Cattrall (Big Trouble in Little China, Sex and the City) and a Alastair Duncan (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo).

Tony Malyam (The Burning) took the helm with final act scenes directed by Ian Sharp from a script flexibly written and revised throughout production by Gary Scott Thompson (88 Minutes, The Fast And The Furious), with creature designs by Stephen Norrington (Blade).

Split Second takes place in dystopian London in the year 2008, and tells of Harley Stone (Hauer), a stoic, maverick cop on the edge as he battles tenaciously to catch up with a monstrous, swift, sharp-clawed serial killing creature that rips its victims’ hearts out, whilst always staying one extra step ahead. With the help of rookie detective Durkin (Duncan) and as many big guns as possible, Stone must put the pieces together as the elusive killer makes way to complete his bloody opus with its next target: Stone’s girlfriend, Michelle (Cattrall).

The release features a brand new high definition presentation overseen by Joe Rubin, principally presented in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio, newly scanned, restored and color graded in 4K from the 35MM internegative, and comes with uncompressed 2-channel stereo audio.

Also starring are Academy-Award nominees Michael J. Pollard (Tango & Cash) and Pete Postlethwaite (Inception). Read on for the details:

Eric D. Wilkinson oversaw this project on behalf of MVD. “Collectors have been waiting for this release for a long time. While MVD licensed this film almost two years ago, as a fellow collector, it was important to me to get this release right. At the time of the acquisition, MVD was originally provided with an older HD master, but I felt we could do better. With the help of Joe Rubin, we began a search for the best materials to scan. Once we had a beautiful new master I then reached out to 101 Films, who control the rights to Split Second in the UK, and we worked together creating new bonus materials and locating classic material in order to make this truly the definitive release of ‘Split Second” in both North America and the UK. I want to thank the 101 Films team for all of their hard work and thank the fans for their continued support of our collectors’ label. I promise it was worth the wait!”
