STRAY DOLLS: Sonejuhi Sinha’s Latest Crime Pic Opens April 10 From Samuel Goldwyn Films

“Pretty. Dangerous.”

That’s the tagline for Sonejuhi Sinha’s new crime thriller, Stray Dolls which now has a limited theatrical and digital U.S. release on April 10 from Samuel Goldwyn Films. We have a trailer out and running this week, as well as the official key art and stills before then.

An expansion from her 2015 shortfilm, Love Comes Later, Sinha directs from a script she co-wrote with Charlotte Rabate. Geetanjali Thapa (Trapped) stars along with Olivia DeJonge (Better Watch Out) and Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City) and Robert Aramayo.

Riz, a recent immigrant and ex-gang member, works at a motel in hopes of starting her life over in America. At the motel, Riz meets Una (Nixon), the formidable owner, and her drug-selling son Jimmy. Rooming with another motel maid Dallas, who is a bold, assertive runaway, blackmails Riz triggering a series of violent events that entwine Riz, Dallas, and Jimmy. In a last-ditch effort, a desperate Riz and Dallas create a plan to rob Una to escape from the motel and the web of crime they’ve created.

The film saw a few festival nods in the past year, with Thapa scoring a Best Actress win at Tribeca, a high mark for SGF who bills the film as “…a truly a character driven drama” in their announcement.

“You’re rooting for them but not necessarily rooting for something that they did wrong,” said Sinha who is being hailed as Indiewire’s “25 Rising Female Directors to Know.”

…Plenty of reason to put eyes on this one come April 10, I guess! Peep the trailer above as well as key art and stills below from Samuel Goldwyn.
