Kazakh actor and producer Timur Baktybayev is staking his claim as the latest prospective screen star of his region, aimed firmly at helping carry the torch for Hong Kong-style action films in the region. Having made the festival rounds with Kung Fu Rookie in the past year with a release in toe for the U.S., Baktybayev has since returned to the table with another offering in Super Courier, which opens in local cinemas on March 20.
Timur is a good-natured courier who is used to helping everyone, even to his own detriment. One day, after protecting a respected judge from bandits, he receives an unusual offer – to become his daughter Sabina’s driver. But he soon realizes that his real task is to be her bodyguard, because a powerful enemy of the family is ready to do anything to take the girl away. When Sabina is kidnapped, Timur will have to forget about fear and turn into a hero to save her and find out why the criminals need her so much.
Olzhas Ibraev directs from a script by Ryskul Konkabaev and Ernat Bayvalov. Also starring are Shahrizada Serikova, Kubaev Nurbolat, Dulyga Akmolda, Yerekbulan Dayirov, Tamiris Zhangazinova, and Kuttybay Sagyndykov.
