As if we needed more reasons to celebrate May the 4th, Disney released the new Star Wars series, The Bad Batch.
The Bad Batch is set between Revenge of the Sith, and A New Hope, or if you’re all about the new stuff, Star Wars: The Clone Wars – S7, and Rogue One. The first episode starts off just about 10 minutes before Order 66 – the order to wipe out the Jedi. We first meet Jedi master Depa Billaba, and her padawan Caleb Dume, or as anyone who has watched Star Wars: Rebels knows him as Kanan Jarrus. They are quickly overrun by battle droids, but the “Bad Batch,” Clone Force 99, crash in, literally, and save the day.
Shortly after Order 66 is executed, many clones are recalled to Kamino for a mandatory assembly, and then we see the infamous Palpatine Galactic Empire speech from Revenge of the Sith. After that, Tarkin re-evaluates all the clones to see whether he should replace them with stormtroopers. We also meet a child named Omega, who gets adopted in a way by the Bad Batch. I can’t give you many details there because of how important she is. Tarkin has Force 99 run some, “errands” and they fail, desperately.
The Bad Batch is very well written. Now, you may ask why there is going to be a series on a bunch of clones instead of the more precious Grogu, well this is important because it is very likely that The Bad Batch will set up the Kaminoian Rebellion, which may become part of Star Wars canon. The show also seems to be building up more information which sets up for both Rebels, and Rogue One. Another thing to note, the animation was fantastic, if you liked The Clone Wars’s animation, you’ll love The Bad Batch’s animation. The voice actors also did a stellar job, and it just takes you back to when The Clone Wars was the biggest thing in Star Wars since the films.
On a final note, even if you’ve never watched The Clone Wars I still recommend you watch The Bad Batch because we always need more Star Wars in our life. The animators, voice actors, writers, and directors worked so hard to make this happen. The first episode is 75 minutes long, so grab some popcorn, and enjoy The Bad Batch
