Director Chris Sanders’ new film has Harrison Ford taking on nature’s rough terrain with a wayward dog in The Call Of The Wild. The film is based on Jack London’s early 20th century novel from a script by Michael Green, and boasts cutting edge VFX and animation for its presentation of the animals in the film to make them fully photorealistic, as well as emotionally authentic.
The first official trailer is online from Fox/Disney for a February 21, 2020 release, and there’s definitely some convincing work done that looks to benefit the film as heavy as it leans on its canine hero, Buck, to enhance the on-screen friendship that will take shape from here on; This, of course, from the same conglomerate that just released a live-action reboot of Lady And The Tramp on its newly-launched streaming service – no talking animals here though.
Adapted from the beloved literary classic, THE CALL OF THE WILD vividly brings to the screen the story of Buck, a big-hearted dog whose blissful domestic life is turned upside down when he is suddenly uprooted from his California home and transplanted to the exotic wilds of the Alaskan Yukon during the Gold Rush of the 1890s. As the newest rookie on a mail delivery dog sled team–and later its leader–Buck experiences the adventure of a lifetime, ultimately finding his true place in the world and becoming his own master.
There’s a trend here growing from the application of dogs on the big screen in the wake of Halle Berry’s attack-dog formation in John Wick 3: Parabellum – certainly a point of reference in a report this month announcing a revival of Rin Tin Tin for [studio]. We’ll see how long this lasts, but clearly there’s some oxygen here.
The Call Of The Wild also stars Dan Stevens, Omar Sy, Karen Gillan, Bradley Whitford and Colin Woodell.
