Kyrgyzstan is one area of the world that that seldom gets coverage by sites like our for what we do. Alas, when a name like that of actor and influencer Shumkarbek Beishenaliev comes into the spotlight with a campaign for a local action comedy called The Ferryman, I’m keen to help draw some attention.
The official trailer is finally here following the last few months of poster campaigning and you can spot three of them beneath the player. Uchkun Zhakypbekov directs the Central Asian actioner which sees Beishenaliev in the role of Ruslan, an ex-special forces operative-turned car smuggler. As the rest of the logline reads: “His world changes when he accidentally saves a little girl, Eva, whose father has become a victim of a ruthless drug dealer. Ruslan takes on the protection of Eva and tries to save her father, who is no longer alive.”
The film also stars Dmitry Balbekin, Aruuke Nadyrova, and Azerbaijani actor and martial artist Sain Ferhad Fermanli.
Make note of the action beats with Beishenaliev doing his thing, giving all the Stathamisms available to bookend the coolness of seeing another action hero kick ass in a nifty suit and tie. Top it off with music cues by Imagine Dragons and Inner Circle, and you get The Ferryman which I reckon will have some action fans curious as the genre endures its way into the new year.
The Ferryman opens in Kyrgyzstan cinemas on December 5. Take a look below!
