THE HIT LIST: March 11, 2019
I can’t even sum up my weekend, save for the fact that like most of my weekends, it wasn’t a weekend, really. It never really is, to be honest… oh well.
Kicking off this week’s installment of the Hit List is another round of stunt performance and training reels featuring an extended look at Brigette Paroissien, followed by Abel Djilali, Domonique Goff, Justin Carney, Vaia Zaganas, Gene Freeman, Faye McQueen, Vinny O’Brien, Orlando Naveo, Claire Hoogenboom, Gabriel Rodriguez, Mami S. Ito, Hector Melgoza, Sabreena Candreva, Jonathan Goosen, actress and filmmaker Betty Kaplan and stunt coordinator Buster Reeves!
It feels like forever but the official trailer is finally here for Trent Dickens’s latest outing, Panda. Crowdfunded, produced and debut directed by Dickens, Panda hails from Dapper Fox Productions with the psychedelic story of a wandering vagrant whose racousing night out after a fight with his girlfriend turns into a soul-searching, introspective tale of drugs, sex, unending violence and daunting mystery.
I keep reminding myself to send Dickens some questions about this. No doubt about it, that interview is definirely happening, so stay tuned, and do feel free to peep my review here. Just beneath that is the official trailer for Celine Tsai’s romantic drama short, Picking Things Up with Christine Nguyen and Phi Huynh (you’ll notice my name in the description, and that’s because I helped Huynh out a little bit on the synopsis end of things. I also screened the project as well so I have a review ready to publish when the time comes).
The Fights And Films section is where it’s at for the week starting with Distinctive Light Entertainment’s newest short tale with Ruben Maldonado and a dog named Coco in Day Dream. Taco-loving Gabriella Corvina gets Spicy in her latest short while Alfred Hsing and Shu Xin showcase an abridged practice visual of the first fight scene in one of Hsing’s recent film credits, Birth Of The Dragon.
Adam Ciesielski puts in work with his group at PTK Orlando in a new fight choreo sampler just before we catch up with Angela Jordan and Rob Ingram with some practice action by @ajkick101, and Aaron Toney invites Marvel and stunt fans a look at the previsual workings of a key fight scene from Captain America: The Winter Soldier, featuring Sam Hargrave and James Young with coordination and choreography by Thomas Robinson Harper and Chris Carnel, respectively.
Next up is the latest from Chintya Candranaya before we revert back in time with a snippet from a Vlad Rimburg classic featuring Ken Quitugua and Dennis Ruel. Following that is episode four of the hit indie action comedy webseries, Yes, Auntie!: My Asian Auntie Season 2, and Bryan Sloyer who continues to amaze with nothing short of an increasingly refined craft in action and drama for his newest short, Arthur.
On that note, enjoy the hits!
