Director Victor Vu has had a great run the past few years since buzzing with superhero thriller, Loi Bao, and subsequently filming his new fantasy drama epic, The Immortal. Reuniting with Loi Bao actor Quach Ngoc Ngoan for a starring capacity, the film is currently making the rounds in Vietnamese cinemas and taking the top spot at the box office and we now have an exclusive clip.

The film’s action producer, Jason Ninh Cao, collaborated with action director Vincent Wang (Dracula Untold, The Great Wall) in designing the spectacle right down to the last squib. You can also take a gander at that effort in a recently-released five-minute behind-the-scenes look at the film which showcases speaking segments from Wang, Vu and other crew.

Ngoan stars from a script by Vu and co-writer Kay Nguyen which sees An, a woman stumble upon a cave with mysterious secrets that unveil the tumultuous and chilling tale of Hung, a man who has been alive for three centuries. Hung’s tumultuous life reveals a story filled with ambition, vengeance and dark magic.

“When we think of action, we first think about the characters.” Cao tells Film Combat Syndicate. “We think about ways to bring the directors vision to life. We tell the story through realistic action sequences and as a result the audiences can believe in the characters, and will immerse themselves in the story.”

There’s no news just yet of the film’s acquisition which I imagine will, at the very least, spill over possibly at some point in 2019. Festival sightings may be an option as well and we’ll try to keep up with those updates as the months pass. Enjoy the clip below in the meantime!
