THE LAST BLOCKBUSTER Review: Ruins of an Ancient Civilization

I’ve never liked blockbuster type of videostores. I found them completely soulless big businesses in which there was only room for countless of copies of big studio films, and barely no real human touch since workers there were employees McDonald’s or Burger King’s type… I´ve always prefered small videostores, where you could find all types of films from all over the world, and the owners were film lovers that could always give you advice what to rent. However, the last Blockbuster that survives on this dark age of streaming platforms, seems to be closer to those small renting shops than what Blockbuster once actually was…

This nostalgic documentary, throws back to a not so long ago ancient civilization where the world was ruled by videostores and Blockbuster monopolized the market… The documentary goes deep into the origins of videostores and gives the audience an insight look of the rise and fall of the franchise, dismantling some popular common beliefs such as Netflix was the one that killed Blockbuster, when actually, what really happened was more complicated than that… But specially the documentary focuses on the last remaining videostore that is located in Bend, Oregon and is managed by a local family that refuses in closing their door.

So tune your yesterday channel and tune into this nostalgic trip of the last survivor of a culture from the 20th century that unfortunately for movie romantics, has been sweeped away with the changing of times on this Brave New World that we are living on this 21th century.
