THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN Is Getting A Fresh New Start For Hulu

Whether you’re a fan of Stephen Norrington’s loose iteration of The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) or any of the properties on which it is based, it’s worth reiterating that no title is sacred in today’s era. Alas, it should come to no suprise that a reboot has been in the works for sometime now, and for this, we turn over to what’s happening over at Disney’s studio division with word via THR that Justin Haythe (The Lone Ranger, Snitch, Revolutionary Road) is penning the screenplay for the potential Hulu release.

The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen began as a 1960 British film by Basil Dearden based on John Boland’s 1958 novel. Comic creators Alan Moore, Kevin O’Neill and Bill Oakley followed suit with a 1999 comic that ultimately served as the basis for Norrington’s dieselpunk action adventure from 20th Century Fox. Featuring late actor Sean Connery in his final film role alongside Shane West, Stuart Townsend, Peta Wilson and Richard Roxburgh, the film took place in 1899 and sees legendary hunter Allan Quartermain summoned once more with a colorful team of uniquely-skilled mythical operatives like Dr. Jekyll, Dorian Grey, The Invisible Man, Captain Nemo, Tom Sawyer and the vampiric Mina Harker to take down a phantasmal supervillain and his terriorist organization.

Don Murphy, who produced Norrington’s film is back to produce the new treatment alongside Susan Montford and 3 Arts Entertainment’s Erwin Stoff. And folks, as for the vision and tone, the report also notes that “Haythe and company are returning to the core comic books for their take”, so… do with that what you will.
