Norwegian filmmaker Pål Øie is proudly getting some shelf space in the UK courtesy of Signature Entertainment for his latest dramatic disaster thriller, The Tunnel (a.k.a. Tunnelen). The film released locally back in December and has been making the market rounds with sales to dozens of territories, save for North America TBA, I suppose.
When a truck explodes in a tunnel located in the Norwegian mountains, families and tourists find themselves fighting for their lives. Trapped in the darkness with no way out, they face subzero temperatures outside or suffocation as the tunnel rapidly fills with smoke inside. With first responders struggling to gain access to the incident due to blizzard conditions, everyone inside is left to fight for their lives.
Based on a true story with a script by Kjersti Helen Rasmussen, The Tunnel stars actor Thorbjørn Harr, and actresses Lisa Carlehed and Ylva Fuglerud, and opens in the UK on September 21.
