Trailer: Indonesian Action Makes Its Comeback With NO MERCY In 2023!

The past several months saw some promotional footage revealed for No Mercy (a.k.a. Tanpa Ampun), a new crime thriller out of Indonesia from writer/director M. Yusuf. Yusuf is most notably known for directing horror features which makes this latest effort his coming-out party in the action arena, and rewardingly with a cast that features actor/martial artist Verdy Bhanwanta.

Bhawanta has only a handful of screen credits to his name. He first came onto our radar starring in Asun Mawardi’s feature martial arts crime thriller, Mortal Enemies (a.k.a. Pirate Brothers) with actor Robin Shou, and also showcased his screen fighting prowess in Awi Suryadi’s nascent proof-of-concepts, YCHMYCSM and Unleashed. He also appeared in a few more local projects since then and now makes his return to a leading role for the first time in years, which effectively puts him on a bigger playing field nowadays, with GFM Film Sales handling world sales for Tanpa Ampun with its new English-language branding.

A gang of ex-military, well-trained, professional thieves are out-manoeuvring and out-shooting the local police; ripping out ATM machines at their convenience and killing guards & civilians who get in their way.

A crack unit of police who have been working together for four years are given the task of bringing down the criminals. Five friends – one woman & four men – determined to rid their island paradise of these evil men whatever the cost.

The Russians are becoming complacent & over-confident, going for one last big heist before they leave the island. The largest bank is Bali is their target. But the police are ready and they have back-up.

The final showdown is apocalyptic as the police begin to trap the Russians one by one. Their reign of terror is over…or so they think.

Bhawanta is also charged with assembling the film’s in-demand action sequences along with Franki Darmawan, who also collaborated with Mawardi on his 2020 regional actioner, Once Upon A Time In Indonesia, as well as Mawardi’s 2015 acting/directing effort, #66.

No Mercy also stars Daniel Immanuel Octavianus and Stevie Domminique Jollie, along with Reza Hafidz Dwi Saputro, Ivan Golofaev, Kristin Krishtovoso, Evgeniy Podnebesniy, Artem Kriventco and Anna Bogdanova. The film hails from Triple A Films, Silent D Pictures and Movie Studio Bali, and following its delay from last October, will release in Indonesia beginning February 2, with overseas acquistions and release dates pending.
