Reuniting with his 100 Yen Love scribe Shin Adachi, director Masaharu Take returns back to the boxing fray with the new sports drama, Underdog. The first trailer premiered over the summer, but the second and latest trailer has been up for about a week as of this post and you can now check it out above.
Falling from a path to become a world champion, which he almost achieved in the past, a pro-boxer, Akira Suenaga stands up on a ring as an “underdog” facing an every day threat of retiring. Abandoned by a mother and once lived in the underworld, a young man Ryuta Omura’s boxing talent is acknowledged and expected to succeed worldwide, while a comedian without any notable achievement happens to take up a challenge for pro-boxing as a part of variety TV show, that is Shun Miyagi. Having different living backgrounds, those three crush their fists on a ring in order to restart their lives and to maintain their own dignity.
Underdog stars Mirai Moriyama (Samurai Marathon), Takumi Kitamura (upcoming Tokyo Revengers) and Ryo Katsuji (upcoming Silent Tokyo). The film is scheduled to open for the 33rd Tokyo International Film Festival which commences on October 31, before releasing theatrically in Japan on November 27 from Toei Video.
