WARHUNT: Mauro Borelli’s Supernatural War Thriller Gets A First Look Ahead Of Cannes

Highland Film Group has revealed a first look photo from The Recall helmer Mauro Borrelli’s supernatural war thriller, Warhunt.

Borrelli reteamed with The Recall co-scribe Reggie Keyohara III to pen the script for an all-star cast that lists Mickey Rourke (Sin City, Immortals, The Expendables, Iron Man 2) Robert Knepper (Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and 2, Fox’s “Prison Break”), and Jackson Rathbone (The Twilight Saga, Paramount Pictures The Last Airbender, and MTV’s “Finding Carter”).

In Warhunt, when Ruthless Major Johnson (Rourke) sends out a squad of his bravest soldiers (Rathbone, Knepper) on a dangerous rescue mission after the violent crash of a World War 2 cargo plane, they are soon attacked by a powerful, supernatural force. Fighting for their sanity and struggling to survive profound horrors, they must uncover the shocking truth behind the force before the Nazis, and remove all evidence that it ever existed, even at the cost of their own lives.

Warhunt was shot on location in Riga, Latvia, and is being edited by popular horror and thriller technician Ed Marx (United Artists’ Jeepers Creepers, Saban Films’ Mara, Universal Pictures’ Unfriended), with a score composed by Tao Liu (The Wandering Earth). HFG will be introducing Warhunt to buyers at the upcoming virtual Cannes market in June.

“Mickey, Robert, and Jackson capture the essence of urgency and panic when their characters of hard-nosed WWII soldiers are put to the test. It’s a dynamic, scary game of life and death that worldwide audiences will enjoy,” said Highland Film Group CEO Arianne Fraser.

“Performances full of conflict, bravery, and terror from Mickey, Robert, and Jackson have you rooting for the heroes. With many twists and turns, and a shocking ending – the audience won’t see what’s coming next,” continued company COO Delphine Perrier.

Forma Pro Films’ Yulia Zaytseva, Igor Pronin, Max Pavlov, and Svetlana Punte produced the film alongside Adel Nur (HBO’s “Euphoria”) and Yu-Fai Suen (Global Road Entertainment’s Show Dogs). Rami Jaber (The Misfits) serves as exec producer alongside HFG’s Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier.

Highland’s diversified production and sales slate includes Renny Harlin-directed The Misfits starring Pierce Brosnan, Nick Cannon, and Tim Roth, and opens via Digital and on Demand on June 11 in the U.S. The slate also lists Bruce Willis thriller Gasoline Alley, Mel Gibson/Cole Hauser headliner Panama, and Randall Emmett’s Wash Me in The River starring Robert De Niro, Jack Huston, and John Malkovich.
