Filmmaker George Threadgold has just wrapped a three-week shoot in and around central and North London for debut independent spy thriller, White Crow. Cameras rolled for three weeks back in September and with the film now entering post-production ahead of a 2022 release.
White Crow hails from New Earth Productions and producer Djonny Chen’s Silent D Pictures. The freshman indie thriller stars Julian Gamm (Eleven, The Reverend and Mrs Simpson) as JD, an ex-covert operative who finds himself wounded, alone and roped into a deadly game of cat and mouse against the clandestine organisation he used to work for long since a past mission went awry.
Also among the cast are Hannah Al Rashid (V/H/S2 The Night comes for us), Carl Wharton (Turkish Ice Cream, Eleven), Noa Bodner (World War Z, Saint Maude, Pennyworth), and Andrew Rolfe (Dragon Fury, Trending Crimes).
White Crow began life as an award-winning three-part 2019 pilot webseries which circulated New York film Awards, and the Festigeous LA Film Festival. The webseries also picked up five awards at the Vesuvius Film Festival in Italy, including Best Webseries, Best Director and Best Editing. In the time that followed, New Earth Productions was able to land funding from Chen and his Silent D banner for feature production.
“This was a very ambitious project.” says Threadgold. “We were punching well above our weight with the stunts and set pieces on White Crow. We were trying to bring a fresh and international spy thriller to life and we managed to pull it off and it looks fantastic! The whole cast and crew through passion for the project worked really hard to give this film a unique feel. You get a lot of Indie Gangster and Horror Films but you don’t get many Spy Thrillers!”
“Playing JD was real honour, bringing him to life from the page, to a web-series and then to a feature was a fantastic experience and a massive learning curve. It was amazing to have the chance to reshoot and tweak things from the web-series but this time with the scale of a feature film! Filming in a bigger format provided its own challenges but we still managed to over come them and plough through to complete the film in a short amount of time.” added Gamm.
