WOLVES: Hannah Al-Rashid And Julie Estelle In The Running For Female-Fronted Revenge Thriller In Early 2021 [EXCLUSIVE]

There’s certainly been a build-up of things in the works for filmmaker Ranjeet S. Marwa, and with as the new year approaches.

Following up from last week’s mention of Wolves, we can officially report further on the project’s development with Marwa penning the script to direct, as well as produce. The film is billed as a female-fronted revenge thriller in the vein of John Wick, and is currently circling a shortlist of actresses including Hannah Al-Rashid (Buffalo Boys) and Julie Estelle (Foxtrot Six) for the lead role.

The film’s official logline reads as follows: “Old ghosts may prove hard to kill for Tora, a beautiful and deadly assassin who’s since traded in her former life of violence and bloodshed for that of marriage, and motherhood to their young son. On one fateful day, Tora’s world comes crashing down when her family is summarily executed, pulling her back into the fray of her old life to find out who and why, exact vengeance on the people responsible, and bury her past once and for all.”

Wolves is a concept that’s been brewing under Marwa’s Rocket Sky High Motion Pictures Ltd label for some five years now. He will once again be joined by Djonny Chen (Daemon Mind) who will produce though Silent D Pictures.

The two recently wrapped independent survival thriller, Exiled: The Chosen Ones, which stars Al-Rashid opposite lead actor Sunny Pang, and Oka Antara, and is now in post-production for release in 2021. Wolves also joins an even longer list of projects and potential concepts going forward, including Blood Rush and Traced, which have remained in development since the top of the year.

As for Wolves, it’s worth mentioning that pic could possibly see Al-Rashid join Estelle on the same cast roster. The move would mark a delightful reunion for both actresses who last went toe-to-toe in Timo Tjahjanto’s gloriously violent action epic, The Night Comes For Us, which is currently on Netflix. For now, we wait and see what the producers say.

Schedules are still pending, but Wolves could go first in the new year for Marwa’s slate, barring a feature horror concept and other previously-announced engagements; As reported last week, Marwa will reteam with Exiled star Sunny Pang in the summer for the UK shoot, Blind Rage.

More to come.
