Your Next Viewing: Brandon Cronenberg’s POSSESSOR Seizes Assassin Genre Expectations

Well Go USA

You know a film is going to be good when it opens with a bloody assassination.

Directed and written by Brandon Cronenberg, Possessor is the first sci-fi thriller of 2020 and honestly I think this movie would have to be in my top-five of the year.

Like I said, it opens with a bloody assassination and then the assassin…kills themself. What? Scene change to the explanation: Tasya is an assassin for a company, but these aren’t some old-fashioned Kill Bill-type of assassinations where you pretend to be a person delivering flowers to off your target. No, the disguise is now thanks to technology: This company is able to use brain-implant technology that allows the assassins to take over someone’s body and make them assassinate people.

Seriously. I love this idea of the technology which briefly reminded me of the film Source Code, except that in Possessor, the assassin can control the hijacked person for days, if needed.

But, if we have learned anything from any sci-fi film about brains and memories it is that these types of technology do not always work the way we need or want it to. So Tasya, of course, is suffering some side effects and eventually becomes trapped in someone’s body after completing an assassination.

Well Go USA

I enjoyed every moment of this film: the storyline, the acting, the visuals. I couldn’t wait to see what happened next and was so engrossed in this movie that at several points of my viewing, I forgot about the bowl of popcorn in my lap.

Since I had access to the Possessor Uncut Blu-ray, I also was able to see special features including behind the scenes and deleted scenes. So if you pick up a physical copy, make sure you take the time to check out the trailers (I really need to see Cut Throat City!) and enjoy the bonuses.

Possessor takes a look at the skillful art of assassination and adds a thrilling sci-fi twist that will leave you wanting more.

Make sure you pick up a copy ASAP as Possessor is now available on digital as of last month, and on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra Blu-ray Combo December 7, from your friends at Well Go USA.
