Your Next Viewing: THE DEEPER YOU DIG [ARROW Review]

What happens when one’s life ends? I recently had a conversation with a friend whose thoughts made me think of The Deeper You Dig. It helped me to understand the film more. I’m sure you have a lot of questions. Let me backup.

The Deeper You Dig is written, directed by, and stars the filmmaking family the Adams Family and is part of the Arrow launch lineup. Arrow is a new streaming service and if you haven’t heard of it yet, you should check out their offerings. But back to the movie.

Ivy makes a living as a tarot card reader though at first glance, she may not be the real deal. Her daughter Echo asks to go sledding one night and although Ivy says no, she goes anyway. What happens when children don’t listen in horror films? Yup. Echo ends up dead. I won’t tell you how, but it does involve their new neighbor Kurt.

What follows is reminiscent of A Tell-Tale Heart: Kurt tries to cover up his mistake while Ivy searches for his daughter and Ivy tries to make her presence known to both of them. As Ivy digs deeper within to make herself heard and seen, Kurt digs deeper, too, trying to bury his actions.

So, I will ask again: what happens when one’s life ends? Is there a light we go into? Does our soul or energy linger around this realm, haunting people or trying to connect with them? Or is there nothing and murderers like Kurt are just haunted by their actions?

The Deeper You Dig is an intense look at a mother’s grief, a murderer’s guilt, and a life cut short but refuses to end. Take the time to watch this film. It’s not scary in a jump scare or gory way, but sometimes human actions themselves can be frightful.
