2014 saw the release of director Josh C. Waller’s Raze with actress Zoë Bell, whose career has seen quite a shift over the years from stuntwoman to an actress slowly and graciously coming into herself more and more. Ask any action fan who follow people like Bell and they’ll tell you there’s more where that came from with today’s crop of action performers bringing more than a good pair of fists and stunt gravitas to the table.
Accordingly, we now have Camino which made the festival rounds late last year to great approval, reuniting Bell and Waller once more for a plot that takes us beyond the cramped underbelly of Waller’s predecessor and into the vast wilderness where survival is all that matters. It’s a perfect look and setting for Bell who continues to showcase her prowess in stunts as well as her action chops, and in the first full trailer unveiled last week, she shows it ferociously.
SYNOPSIS:
Set in 1985, war photographer Avery Taggert (Zoë Bell) has built a solid career with her stark and honest imagery, all the while remaining emotionally distant from her subjects. When she embeds in the jungles of Colombia with a squad of missionaries led by a beloved and charismatic Spaniard known as “El Guero” (Nacho Vigalondo), she finds herself in the middle of a conflict as violent as any she’s photographed. One night, she happens upon El Guero committing a heinous atrocity, capturing the vile act on film, an image with the potential to discredit and destroy El Guero. Knowing this brilliant psychopath will employ every tactic at his disposal to destroy that photograph – and the photographer who took it – Avery flees into the harsh jungle with nothing but the camera hanging around her neck to escape from missionaries twisted into violent guerrillas by the madman intent on destroying all enemies
Joining Bell is Francisco Barreiro, Shiela Vand, and acclaimed director Nacho Vigalondo in a rare screen role. Watch the trailer below ahead of the film’s upcoming U.S. releases on March 4 in theaters, and on Digital/VoD on March 8 courtesy of XLrator’s Turbo label.
