Fox Confirms R-Rating, Possible Plot Info For Hugh Jackman's WOLVERINE Finale
Sources close to Den Of Geek are confirming that 20th Century Fox is officially on board with an R-rating for the third installation of their X-Men spinoff trilogy featuring Hugh Jackman as Logan Howlett, a.k.a. Wolverine. The report cites that the studio had actually been planning an R-rated bow out long before director Tim Miller’s latest, Deadpool, arose with its violent R-rated fanfare in the wake of fans’ decade-long demands for a film true to the source material.
The news comes just a few days after 20th Century Fox made its presence at Toy Fair 2016 in New York City with a pamphlet containing a page regarding the film and the MPAA rating they stated they were pushing for. The report also reaffirms the story will be set centrally in the alternative future dystopia created by author Mark Millar and illustrator Steve McNiven in the tonally violent Wolverine #66-72 and Wolverine Giant-Size Old Man Logan, wherein the X-Men are no more, villains rule the U.S., and our hero, now a family man, initially refuses to unleash his claws or be “Wolverine” ever again.
Blade Runner sequel co-writer Michael Green will be handling the screenplay with Jackman in his eighth and final bow in the role that propelled his Hollywood career since first starring in Bryan Singer’s X-Men in 2000. James Mangold who directed The Wolverine in 2013, is helming the film’s shoot next month with actor Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Professor Charles Xavier and Lauren Shuler Donner executive producing for its March 3, 2017 release.
