David Oyewolo Going 'Express' In Nash Edgerton's New Action Comedy
STX Entertainment has a few titles in its catalogue that I’m very much into. This week they’re in Cannes making their agenda clear while currently underway in Mexico City filming an unofficially titled action comedy in partnership with Amazon Studios.
The film, unofficially presented at CinemaCon back in March as American Express, sees actor David Oyewolo (Selma, Captive, Nina) in the role of Harold Soyinka, a newly married, mild-mannered American businessman whose prospects in the pharmaceutical field turn null and void when he ends up stranded South of the border with a price on his head, and questions about the life he had which never existed. Veteran stunt professional and producer Nash Edgerton makes his sophomore directorial offering from a script by producer Anthony Tambakis and Matt Stone with actresses Amanda Seyfried, Charlize Theron and Thandie Newton, and actors Yul Vazquez and Hardcore Henry co-star Sharlto Copley also starring.
Amazon Studios is co-releasing the film with STX, and also producing along with Rebecca Yeldham, AJ Dix and Beth Kono, with Trish Hofmann executive producing. Oyewolo, recently cast in J.J. Abrams’s forthcoming sci-fi, God Particle, returns to the big screen this September in Disney’s inspirational Chess drama, Queen of Katwe.
