Liam Neeson Boards Spanish Thriller Remake, RETRIBUTION
Lionsgate is currently poised to release actor Liam Neeson’s most recent completion, The Commuter, on January 12 from director Jaume Collet-Serra. In the meantime, with Neeson newly finished with Hans Peter Molland’s Hard Powder, the actor will be reteaming with Collet-Serra, who will produce, for another upcoming remake of Dani de la Torre’s 2015 directorial debut, El Desconocido, or Retribution in English.
Produced by Vaca Films and Atresmedia, de la Torre’s film earned a raft of nominations and two wins with a story centered on a bank executive forced to complete a series of tasks whilst trapped in his car with his children, lest the captor holding them hostage via phone detonates the bomb in his car. The remake, which hails from Studiocanal, The Picture Company, and Ombra Films and is slated for a Fall shoot, will see Neeson starring as a Wall Street executive to this extent in a script by Chris Salmanpour and Andrew Baldwin with Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman, and Ombra Films’s Juan Sola producing.
Vaca Films and Atresmedia are executive producing the film. The search for a director remains ongoing. (H/T: Deadline)
