Trophy Wife is now available on Amazon Prime in the U.S. for rental or purchase, from Indie Rights Movies. Trigger Warring: This review discusses domestic violence. Michael Hoad is an actor whose works I’ve typically covered from his trajectory in action and choreography, per this site’s purview. That’s not to overlook his pursuits as an actor, which is something not too far off for anyone in his particular field, and so it makes sense for me to spotlight his latest collaborative work now available on Amazon Prime in the U.S. for rental or purchase. For this, we turn to Eric Garson’s feature debut, Trophy Wife, presumptively a tale of a loving marriage that’s revealed to be more toxic than thought. This is at least what the title and inoccuous poster would have you believe, unless you’ve seen the trailer which doles out at least one nugget of peculiar sci-fi intrigue. […]
With developments still on going for his own projects, actor Michael Hoad remains onward as he takes the lead in director Soner Metin’s own incarnation of Van Helsing. ITN Movies is releasing the pic later this year – info which comes by way of Movies And Mania who also published our first look at the trailer which you can view above. Hoad stars from a script by Tom Jolliffe. The film is produced by Scott Chambers [as Scott Jeffreys] and Rhys Waterfield, with Sarah Alexandra Marks, Kate Sandison, Harry Boxley, Abi Casson Thompson, Antonia Whillans, Mark Sears, Richard Harfst, Darrell Griggs and Elspeth Foster also starring.
Covering independent shorts like Shoguns Of Gymbox, Insurrection, The Division and Blood Choke Retribution, the work of actor and filmmaker Michael Hoad extends even further into the mainstream as it has in the last four years, in some capacity or another. With continued growth in his trade craft which also includes stunts, Hoad is currently looking toward his feature directing debut with indie actioner, The Man From The Mountain, which you can read more about by tapping here. In the meantime, fans of action can expect to catch Hoad, of course, IN ACTION, in the new action thriller, The Gardener, with Robert Bronzi, and action star Gary Daniels. Hoad took to Film Combat Syndicate to chime in about the film and his goings-on for the moment. Enjoy the read! Greetings Michael and thanks for taking the time to share some of your thoughts with us. We’ve chatted back and forth […]
Independent filmmaker Michael Hoad is developing The Man From The Mountain, signaling his move into feature film territory for his Lost Boys Films independent banner. The film is billed as an ode to late 80s fish-out-of-water action movies and British crime stories, with heavy influences from Korean noire cinema, and odd-couple buddy features. Hoad is now a year-and-a-half into the project, and currently has two rising talents on board: actor and stunt performer Jon Xue Zhang and actor Serhat Metin. Soner Metin will serve as cinematographer. Zhang will star as Chen, a Chinese warrior monk who emerges from mountain-top isolation, arriving to London upon receiving an urgent letter from his long lost sister. Metin will tackle the role of Dillon, a struggling comic book artist with problems of his own. The two discover each other during their unrelenting quest as they tread through London’s seedy underbelly, confronting ruthless gangsters and […]
Principal photography has since wrapped on the new thriller, The Gardener. Several behind-the-scenes photos have made their way online in the past few weeks revealing actors Robert Bronzi (Death Kiss and Once Upon A Time In Deadwood, Escape From Death Block 13), and martial arts star Gary Daniels (The Expendables, I Am Vengeance). Bronzi stars from a story by Jeff Miller and screenplay by Ben Demaree, that focuses on Peter, an immigrant worker in England whose quiet, idyllic life as a gardener at manor house will find him turning up the volume, and employing his old skills to save the family he works for from home invaders. Scott Jeffrey and Rebecca J. Matthews share directing duties and are producing via their Proportion Productions label. Ben Demaree penned the script from a story by Jeff Miller who exec produces along with longtime producer Mark L. Lester (Class Of 1999, Showdown In […]
Actor and filmmaker Michael Hoad has been in my purview for as long as I’ve followed a number of UK stunt talents. His latest push in the past few years since doing it up in Cannes for Jean Paul-Ly’s The Division and his own forthcoming sci-fi action proof, Soner Metin’s Insurrection, currently brings us Blood Choke Retribution, a project that clearly speaks to the fanbase it aims for going forward. Save for the similar-seeming revenge tropes, Hoad, Blood Choke Retribution is a pretty simple short story to follow telling of Jack, a former special forces soldier on early leave whose hometown arrival and reunion with the wife are sourly interrupted by the emergence of a burgeoning gang looking to escalate. Jack is rendered half-blind and beaten, and his wife raped and murdered in retaliation for Jack’s meddling; Blood Choke Retribution begins in the wake of that tragedy just as Jack […]
