2010’s Enthiran was a major hit from Sun Pictures and director Shankar. Actor S.S. Rajinkanth took the dual mantle in the title role, playing a scientist whose latest creation, an android named Chitti, sparks not only fascination, but corporate rivalry in lieu of its growing autonomy.
One look at this particular scene might draw some familiarity if you’re into Bollywood, sci-fi and viral video memefare. Indeed, for all its explosive and frankly impressive action and spectacle, the film was India’s most expensive production by then and it helped to have the kind of critical and box office reception it did.
The first film jumps ahead several decades into the future, although plot details for the upcoming spiritual sequel, 2.0, remain uncertain beyond this point. At any rate, the new film now has Rajinikanth reprising his role now with Singh Is Bliing stars, actor Akshay Kumar playing the villain, and with actress Amy Jackson as the new leading lady.
Back on spectacle for a moment: If you’ve seen the first film, these posters shouldn’t be too surprising or even that absurd to you. Indian films almost never let up as they are notorious for going bigger than big and if the Hitcockian take these posters bare are of any hint, fans are gonna be in for some possibly crazy shit. And in 3D this time around too!
