A New Terminator Trilogy Is In The Works, Schwarzenegger To Return

I personally never thought that the Terminator franchise would get a reboot, particularly considering how epic the orginally story was from the beginning. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised though, considering that we are in an age of remakes and reboots. And now that the very franchise that helped boost director James Cameron’s career back in 1984 is back in the headlines with a new press release courtesy of Paramount Pictures, I wouldn’t be surprised if Avatar gets rebooted.

Not to sound cynical or anything, particularly since I support good movies in general, whether they are reboots or not. However, it is a bit awkward that we never really see the end of the war between John Connor and the Human Resistance, and the Terminators hell bent on eliminating all humanity, especially after the events in Terminator: Salvation, which I enjoyed (I sort of thought it was a reboot already).
Oh well, if there is potential here to revitalize the fanbase and reintroduce the now 30-year old franchise to a new generation of sci-fi geeks, then I say go for it.
On that note, here is the important stuff:

Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures have jointly announced they will partner on a rebooted “TERMINATOR” movie, to be released by Paramount Pictures on June 26, 2015.

The first in a stand-alone trilogy, “TERMINATOR” will be produced by Megan Ellison of Annapurna and David Ellison of Skydance. Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake of Skydance will serve as executive producers. Laeta Kalorgridis (“Avatar,” “Shutter Island”) and Patrick Lussier (“Drive Angry”) are attached to write the screenplay.

Launched in 1984 with star Arnold Schwarzenegger as the title character, “TERMINATOR” spanned 3 subsequent films, which have earned over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

David Ellison most recently executive produced, along with his partners at Paramount, “World War Z,” “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”. A 5th installment of in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise is in active development, along with a 3rd film in the “G.I. Joe” franchise, among other films.

Megan Ellison most recently produced the Academy Award®-nominated “Zero Dark Thirty,” “The Master” and executive produced “Spring Breakers” via her Annapurna Pictures banner and has David O. Russell’s “American Hustle,” Spike Jonze’s “Her,” and Bennett Miller’s “Foxcatcher” set for release later this year.

In case you missed it, it was recently reported that Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is currently being picked for the main role in The Toxic Avenger reboot, is coming back to the Terminator franchise as well, as…you guessed it, a Terminator.

The former governor of California is also set for another Conan film and a sequel to the 1988 Schwarzenegger/DeVito action comedy, Twins, called Triplets, also starring Eddie Murphy.
So what do you guys think? Are you eager to see a new trilogy? Will you miss the story of Kyle Reese, Sarah Connor and son, John? Feel free to comment below or on Facebook.
