ACTION REACTION: Watch Robin Schmidt's First Of A Series Of Essays On Action Cinema

It’s been awhile since we’ve heard from filmmaker Robin Schmidt who’s stirred things up a bit in the festivals with his most recent award-winning action short, Dog. The film isn’t online in full just yet but you can watch it now at the official website a la Vimeo provided you contact Schmidt for the password.

In the meantime you’ll find him at the helm of a mic where he’s found something new to pick up on in the form of video essays. Thus, here and now with the first of an on-going series for Action Reaction, his first subject is Luc Besson’s 1994 hit film, Leon: The Professional starring Jean Reno and Natalie Portman, and with specific emphasis on highlights throughout the film that substantiate Besson’s formula for the opening sequence, a scene in which a series of gruesome badguy deaths lead up to Reno’s eerie first appearance…bulletholes, knife and all.
Enjoy!
