Amy Johnston's Lead Debut, LADY BLOODFIGHT, Wraps Filming

The nature of independent online action filmmaking is one that is full of surprises. It certainly lended us one in the form of actress and martial artist Amy Johnston in a viral choreography video that began making the rounds three years ago, and its benefitted her greatly with a number of appearances in several projects, including Epic Rival’s 2015 2-episode release, Clandestine.

Needless to say, it’s been a good journey for the up-and-coming actress whose skillset has since earned the attention of Voltage Pictures with Kiss Of The Dragon helmer, director Chris Nahon attached to direct the female-centric martial arts action adventure, Lady Bloodfight. The film itself has taken a few years to evolve in pre-production and development as a whole, and thankfully the film has earned its way forward with news that the film has finally wrapped principal photography. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2: The Green Legend producer Bey Logan also wrote the script with an official synopsis from Voltage Pictures that reads as follows:

Jane is a beautiful but troubled American girl backpacking through Japan, when her raw street fighting skills draw the attention of Oshima, Japanese karate champion. He recruits and trains her to fight in the vicious, all-female, underground martial arts tournament known as “The Kumite”.

After months of rigorous preparation, Jane is ready to face off against the deadliest female fighters in the world, including Ling, the Chinese apprentice of Oshima’s nemesis. But other nefarious forces lie in the shadows, and Jane and Ling will have to unite on a journey that will take them from the gritty underworld of Hong Kong to the glitz of Macau, before deciding who really is the best female fighter in the world.

Other names attached are actress Jenny Wu, Kathy Wu and Jet Tranter who all got their own character posters as of last December while an official cast listing should arrive shortly as promotion for the film ramps up.

Also producing are Justin Bursch, Nicolas Chartier, Babacar Diene and Zev Foreman with action sequences directed by Hong Kong stunt legend, actor and action coordinator Hung Yan Yan (Once Upon A Time In China 3, Double Team, Coweb, The Golden Cane Warrior). A November release has been stamped over at the film’s IMDb listing as of this write-up while further details and possible changes are still pending.
