Arnold Backs Out Of THE TOXIC AVENGER Reboot

Back in May it was reported that action star Arnold Schwarzenegger would be appearing in the currently developing theatrical reboot of The Toxic Avenger, from director Steve Pink. The revision of the 1980’s undergrond cult cinema classic would have seen Schwarzenegger take on the role of “The Exterminator”, a character who trains the grotesque looking hero to use his powers for good. On Friday however, blockbuster movie fan site Expendables Premiere forwarded an updated conversation from WeGotThisCovered.com detailing some interesting dialogue regarding Schwarzenegger‘s newly publicized departure, as depicted in the following exchange:

“WGTC: I love that Arnold Schwarzenegger has committed to [The Toxic Avenger] remake and wants to be in it…

Lloyd Kaufman: Well no, he unsigned. He signed and apparently unsigned. I’m not sure what went down, I’m not really privi’ed, but yes, it was announced in every newspaper, there are photos of Arnold Schwarzenegger holding up a poster of The Toxic Avenger. From what I understood, he got a better deal and had his fingers crossed.”

As updates on The Toxic Avenger continue to develop, fans can expect to see the actor continue to play a prominent role in Thor 2 director Alan Taylor’s forthcoming July 1, 2015 trilogy kickoff of the tentatively titled Terminator: Genesis, which will theatrically reboot the franchise following a brand new TV series to be scribed and executive produced by Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller with a story that builds up from key moment within director James Cameron’s original 1984 classic. Fans awaiting the film’s releass are currently awaiting confirmation on who will take over the role of “Sarah Connor”, previously played by actress Linda Hamilton, with the search for candidates narrowed down to just two, and actor Jason Clarke tapped as the war-destined future depiction of Sarah’s son, John.
Following pending updates for Schwarzenegger‘s upcoming zombie horror thriller, Maggie, his next appearance will be in David Ayer’s April 11, 2014 action crime thriller, Sabotage, followed by the August 15, 2014 release of The Expendables 3, directed by Patrick Hughes.
