I don’t think there’s anything too peculiar about the comeback of nostalgia projects. Point in fact, we’ve seen this coming with plenty of signals by independent l creatives who’ve provenly showcased themselves in exhibiting yesteryear storytelling in film and TV.
Debut filmmaker Erick Solis just happens to be one of the staunch and notable few out there proudly flying the flag or possibly hoisting a boombox with synthwave on full blast. Going on five years since development to date, he’s proudly touting his latest venture, Night Run, which is well on its way toward a 2019 production start.
The project first ran on Indiegogo late last year and fell short of its more ambitious goals. After several months of waiting Solis pressed onward on April 11 via Kickstarter with a more moderate amount, and a rousing campaign trailer that hits the sense hard with neon-lit 80s aesthetic that totally hits the spot.
As such, the response he was enormous with 92% funding in just a week before topping up 300% just 20 days shy of the finish line. The campaign officially ended on May 20 topping its stretch goals past $30,000, and to say the least, there’s promise to be seen here for its thrilling, escapist vision.
The year was 1985, Daniel McCormack was like any other man, a construction worker dreaming of sports cars and a brighter future with his girlfriend, Jennifer. One night Daniel stops an assault on several civilians by the notorious Kano Gang who have been overpowering the city of Santa Mira. Unfortunately, Daniel’s bravery is short lived as he is murdered by Johnny, the gang’s leader. A year later, on a thunderous October night, Daniel rises from his grave seeking revenge on the men who took his life, his future and his dreams.
Night Run has since done a live table read via social media in addition to a wardrobe test. Further announcements are still pending as we await what lies ahead, so keep your eyes peeled and the engine running for this one.
