BERLÍN: Pedro Alonso Heads Up New Cast For ‘Money Heist’ Prequel Spin-Off Series

The creators of hit Netflix series, La Casa De Papel (a.k.a. Money Heist) are moving forward with prequel series spin-off, Berlín, according to announcements made this week and hinted several days prior at various news outlets. The cast was also announced on Wednesday via Twitter, listing Michelle Jenner, Tristán Ulloa, Begoña Vargas, Julio Peña Fernández, and Joel Sánchez, and with none other than leading man Pedro Alonso reprising his role from the aforementioned inaugural hit series.

It’s been five years since the first season of La Casa De Papel landed on the streamer and became a supercharged hit running five seasons. The show features Alonso aligned with a ragtag team of thieves initiated by a brilliant-minded “Professor” as they spend months incognito preparing to rob the Spanish Royal Mint of nearly a billion Euros. The heist unravels in the first two seasons of the show as it toggles back and forth in time with an array of interwoven arcs among our headlining character – each named by a city – narrated from the perspective of sexy career criminal, Tokyo, played by Ursula Corberó.

Alonso’s Berlín proves to be one of the more crucial of the bunch, as he recurs throughout the series in all of its uplifting and equally tragic goings-on. Throughout La Casa De Papel, in all its entirety, the show highlights his connection with the “Professor” and all the events that eventually culminated by the show’s fifth and final season in 2021, after waves of explosive plot twists and shocking reveals. One of the best moments in the show comes in season five, where Berlín, as reserved as he usually is, can’t help but tear up the inside of a luxury restaurant after a revolting discovery involving his own son. It’s one of the biggest moments in the season as it progresses down the wire, and if anyone reading this hasn’t seen it yet, I highly recommend catching up while you still can.

I still have to pick up on Money Heist Korea ahead of season two. In the meantime, Berlín sounds like a great way to enjoy streaming when it arrives.
