If there’s at least one other thing to expect going forward, it’ll be the return of Beyond Skyline star Frank Grillo to the Skyline franchise. Vertical Entertainment officially released the newest and third installment, Skylines, on multiple platforms last week starring Lindsey Morgan, Jonathan Howard, Alexander Siddig and Daniel Bernhardt, and over the weekend, the actor expressed interest in a fourth installment on Instagram.
“Let’s go make another one brother” said Grillo on Sunday on a post by writer/director Liam O’Donnell on Sunday, to which O’Donnell replied “let’s do this! Can’t wait!”
Skylines (a.k.a. Skylin3s) introduces Morgan in the pivotal role of Rose Corley, the beleagured captain of the human/pilot resistance against the invasion that devastated Earth years earlier. When Rose is forced back into the fight to help the resistance Commander acquire a powerful source of energy from the aliens’ distant planet in order to reverse the spread of an intergalactic virus, Rose undergoes an epic journey of self-discovery to embrace her full potential and protect mankind from an even deadlier conspiracy.
Several parts of the story allude to 2017’s Beyond Skyline in which semi-parallel events to the 2010 inagural, Skyline, helmed by Greg and Colin Strause, see Grillo in the role of Mark Corley, an L.A. cop swept directly into the war against the aliens just as his son gets corrupted and turned into a “pilot”. The battle sees both landing in a Southeast Asian country where Rose’s story ultimately begins following her birth on one of the spaceships, having only known Mark as the closest thing to a father.
Effectively, while the story in Skylines begins long after Mark’s disappearance, the new film reasonably provides an ample chance for Mark’s return. Skylines is now available on Digital and VOD with a Blu-Ray and DVD release also in tow, and O’Donnell is already developing a fourth chapter in the franchise, so there’s plenty of time to check out the new threequel and see how this end of the story pans out.
Grillo’s next appearance will be in the Hulu exclusive release of Joe Carnahan’s new action sci-fi thriller, Boss Level, which also stars Mel Gibson, Michelle Yeoh and Selina Lo.
