BIG BAD FILM FEST: First Annual Action Film Festival Launches In 2023

Folks in California throughout can expect to add another to their curated festival event line-ups starting next year with the Fall 2023 launch of the first-annual Big Bad Film Fest. The organization spent more than a year reaching out to sponsors and journalists for coverage partnerships including yours truly and is now announcing its presence in the arena for moviegoers, as well as action fans alike.

“We seek to celebrate and promote the films and stars we love from the past, present, and future” says the festival. “With few exceptions, non-blockbuster action films have been dismissed as an inferior, artless medium. Big Bad Film Fest wants to be a celebration for those who know that this isn’t true as well as a source for discovery for those who want more from their action cinema. Similarly, BBFF will celebrate action screenplays and screenwriters. The artistry involved in keeping an audience engaged and excited goes beyond ‘Insert Fight Here’ and people deserve to be recognized as such.”

The festival is being shepherded and curated by none other than co-chairs Powell Robinson and Patrick R. Young, who, themselves wore multiple hats on numerous projects. Together, the two directed 2015 thriller, Bastard, which won actress Tonya Kay a Horror Society Award for Best Villain, and 2020’s Threshold, which scored its directors the Tabloid Witch Award for Best Feature.

“We’re excited to bring the most exciting stunts, explosions, and talent from around the world together next year! Even in LA alone, there are hundreds of incredible stunt people deserving of the spotlight. We want to help give these artists we admire so much the platform they deserve,” says Robinson.

“The action film community is an incredibly vibrant, diverse, exciting group of people. I see live action anime TikToks with better action choreography than $200m blockbusters. Our next generation of exciting, ingenious actioneers are just waiting to be seen by more people. Hopefully we can help that happen” added Young.

The first Big Bad Film Fest will take place at the LOOK DINE-IN in Glendale, California, and will run for four days from August 23 through 27.
