Boston Underground XXIV: Five Titles To Spotlight At This Year’s Festival!

Buy Me A Coffee

Just a few days ago I learned I was approved for covering the 24th edition of the Boston Underground Film Festival. Indeed this will be more ground to cover as the year advances into another summer loaded with festival goings-on, but I’m especially excited with the prospects.

BUFF 2024 kicks off next week March 20, and I’m here to help underscore a small selection of titles for anyone curious and interested in attending. Mortiz Mohr’s Boy Kills World is one. Bill Skarsgård tackling the tale of a mute maverick avenger trained by a master played by Indonesian action stalwart Yayan Ruhian is something I will never say ‘no’ to.

Immaculate is another, an upcoming horror endeavor from distributor Neon, directed by Michael Mohan and starring Sydney Sweeney in a role that’s easily helping her recover from her brief stint in the superhero genre of late. There’s also dramatic revenge thriller Femme, co-directed between helmers Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping which routinely gets a PR push in my mailbox quite a bit in the past year.

Ariane Louis-Seize’s Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person is definitely a bookmark in terms of deadpan horror comedy about a Canadian vampire who can only feed on people for whom she feels sympathy. There’s also Andrew Kam’s OG Hong Kong 1990 crime thriller, Fatal Termination, and Sébastien Vaniček’s Infested which is bound for Shudder soon, as well as Ry Barrett starrer In A Violent Nature from director Chris Nash.

I should also throw in Amanda Nell Eu’s Malaysian horror Tiger Stripes, a recurring title that’s been circulating in the trades with its festival procession, and Kim Albright’s With Love An A Major Organ, whose premise follows a woman in pursuit of a man who has run away with her heart, like…LITERALLY.

I put together a gallery which you can sift through below. These are five that interest me the most though, while you’re totally welcome to pick YOUR five. Have at it!
