BRIGHTBURN Is No Superman Tale In The Official Trailer

(UPDATED @6:43pm EST with correct video)

It was the momentous occasion that should have officially launched the campaign for The Hive helmer David Yarovesky’s new horror, Brightburn. Before anyone knew, producer and now ousted Marvel MCU director James Gunn’s SDCC shindig was curtailed by an alt-right provocateur bent on destroying his career, effectively delaying the film’s campaign and commencing Gunn’s social media blackout which still remains on-going.

I suppose six months is a long-enough wait now as plenty of time has passed since then, and graciously with a project that unites Yarovesky and Gunn long since their heyday working at Troma. Brightburn marks an occasion for the two cohorts as Sony now unveils the first official trailer, giving netizens and the comic-crowd at Brazil a first look at a story that turns the superhero narrative on its head in intriguing fashion.

What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.

Rounding out the cast are actress Elizabeth Banks and actor David Denman, with Jackson A. Dunn Matt Jones and Meredith Hagner also starring. Sony is proudly releasing Brightburn in theaters on May 24, 2019.
