BUSHWICK: Jane Levy To Star In ‘Cooties’ Directors’ New Disaster Action Flick

Oh New York City, good grief. It’s a little tough living here depending on where you are, but it’ll be nothing compared to the universe that Cooties helmers Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott are now mapping out for one neighborhood in Brooklyn for their upcoming disaster thriller, Bushwick, from Bullet Pictures and XYZ Films. The film has just announced its leading lady this week in the form of actress Jane Levy with further details on what the plot will involve — basically a worst case scenario for a borough that has quite its history within such a historically substantive city. It’s almost an honor, really.

XYZ Films and Bullet Pictures to produce, with XYZ handling world sales

Los Angeles, CA (March 4, 2015) – Jane Levy (SUBURGATORY, EVIL DEAD) has been cast to star in the action thriller BUSHWICK. The film tells the story of twenty-year-old Lucy (Levy), who emerges from a Brooklyn subway to find her neighborhood under attack. Lucy decides to cross the treacherous five blocks of Bushwick – littered with looters, local militias, the invading forces, and one crazy cousin – in order to get home and be reunited with her grandmother.

Levy will next be seen in Paramount’s MONSTER TRUCKS in December 2015. She starred in the 2013 box office hit EVIL DEAD and is well known for her role as Tessa Altman on ABC’s SUBURGATORY.

BUSHWICK will be directed by Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott. The directing duo are best known for their popular Sundance title COOTIES, which stars Elijah Wood, Rainn Wilson, Alison Pill and Jack McBrayer. COOTIES will be released by Lionsgate this year.

BUSHWICK was written by Nick Damici (COLD IN JULY) and Graham Reznik, and will be produced by Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films and Adam Folk of Bullet Pictures. The film is scheduled to go into production in New York in early summer, with WME Global co-repping U.S. sales with XYZ.

“We are thrilled to finally be able to bring Cary and Jon’s vision to life. Their creative instincts are spot on and Jane is absolutely perfect for the role,” said XYZ’s Bolotin.

“Cary and Jon are extremely talented and creative directors and came up with an amazing concept with BUSHWICK.  I’m thrilled to be working with XYZ to make it into an even more amazing movie,” commented Folk.

“We have been passionately developing this movie for six years,” said Murnion and Milott.  “At its core, the film is a very simple story about a relationship, but there are some larger themes that we are addressing as well. Jane is such a tremendous actress; we’ve been a fan of her for years. She is fearless and brings depth and nuance to the characters she plays. We are extremely lucky to have her on board.”

Levy is represented by Burstein Co, WME, and law firm Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern. Murnion and Milott are represented by Verve and managed by PYE.
