Eleven years since the launch of the ABS-CBN Restoration Project, the journey now continues with Kani Releasing lending a foothold in North America with a planned Blu-Ray release of late filmmaker Lino Brocka’s own 1982 take on the classic biblical tale, Cain And Abel. The announcement has been making the rounds since late last year and invites disc collectors to check out what’s in store with a fresh new trailer and a look at assets as well, including new artwork by Tony Stella all which you can view at the bottom of the page.

Firstborn Lorens (Phillip Salvador) toils the land by buffalo while Ellis (Christopher de Leon), the apple of his mother’s eye, is given a university education in Manila. When the latter returns to the family’s hacienda with a metropolitan fiancée in tow (Carmi Martin), the domineering Señora Pina (Mona Lisa) immediately disapproves. Looking to reassert her influence, she asks her youngest to name his inheritance. Ellis claims the land – which sparks a family feud that invites tragedy and boils over into all-out filial war.

Written by Ricardo “Ricky” Lee, Cain And Abel is billed in part as “a powerful examination of the landed class and its frontier justice.” According to Lee, the film initially began as a commercial “action” project, but “became in the making a pure, unfiltered Brocka picture.”

Kani’s debut of the film also comes packaged with writing by Brocka scholar José B. Capino, and other supplemental materials including interviews with stars Christopher de Leon and Carmi Martin. The film makes its worldwide debut later this month and in March, and currently available for pre-order now wherever films are sold, including Vinegar Syndrome whose sister imprint, OCN, is distributing.
