Shaolin Jazz is taking its immersive cinematics on the road with a slate of presentations in Washington, DC this month as part of its CAN I KICK IT? screening series. That means a trio of celebrated hit films combined with the live remix stylings of hip-hop cinema fusion duo Shaolin Jazz, which will be shown for free on the National Mall from August 8 through September 5.
The schedule launches with Marvel’s Black Panther, directed by Ryan Coogler and starring late actor Chadwick Boseman in one of several his portrayals of the titular hero throughout the MCU’s Infinity Saga. Following that will be Mario Van Peebles’ New Jack City, featuring Wesley Snipes, ICE-T and Judd Nelson in one of the most iconic crime noir thrillers of the early 1990s. Brian De Palma’s Scarface will bookend the summer screening series, starring Al Pacino in an epic crime opus that became a global phenomenon.
