CHARLIE’S ANGELS Get Their Wings With Stewart, Scott And Balinska…And Banks!

It was back in 2015 that actress Elizabeth Banks would then follow-up her feature debut, Pitch Perfect 2, with a second outing as director behind Sony’s upcoming Charlie’s Angels reboot. That hasn’t changed, and with a trio of actress now officially listing Kristen Stewart (Personal Shopper), Naomi Scott in her reunion with Banks since Power Rangers and British actress Ella Balinska (Midsomer Murders) to headline the new revival of the classic all-female 1976 crimefighting espionage spy TV series.

Jay Basu penned the latest evolution of the script along with Banks following drafts from Craig Mazin and Semi Chellas. What’s interesting here is the vision Banks and Basu are now going for in this particular evolution for the well-known team of female superspies as it now seems to be a bit more of a world-building affair this time around… likely meaning more potential spy badassery than before, and on that note, maybe even a spy-versus-spy plot that has the Townsend Agency turning on its head? Oh the ideas….

The film will focus on the next generation of Angels working for the mysterious Charlie. Since the original films, the Townsend Agency has grown considerably and gone global, providing security and intelligence services to a wide variety of private clients with offices and highly-trained teams worldwide. This film focuses on one of those teams.

The latest report from Justin Kroll at Variety concludes the sophomore filmmaker will also co-star as the new Bosley, following up on previously performances by David Doyle, actors Bill Murray and the late Bernie Mac on director McG’s 2000 and 2003 movies, and by Ramon Rodriguez on the short-lived 2011 TV series thereafter.

“’Charlie’s Angels,’ for me, is one of the original brands to celebrate the empowered woman since its debut in the ’70s,” Banks said. “This film honors the legacy of Charles Townsend and his agency while introducing a new era of modern and global Angels. I couldn’t be more excited to work with Kristen, Naomi and Ella to bring this chapter to fans around the world.”

Banks is also producing with partner Max Handelman via Brownstone Productions next to Elizabeth Cantillon and producer Doug Belgrad whose 2.0 Entertainment is co-financing.

Charlie’s Angels opens in theaters on September 27, 2019.
