Malbatt: Misi Bakara and Wira director Adrian Teh’s return to action cinema now arrives in the form of crime thriller Chelot, which has a brand new trailer swirling online ahead of an Augsut 27 release. The film stars Beto Kusyairy, Shukri Yahaya, and Shaheizy Sam from a script that reteams Teh with his The Assisstant co-scribe Choong Chi-Ren.
Haqqim, a special operations police officer, who is forced to become an informant for a crime syndicate to overcome financial pressure and save his family. This desperate act puts himself and his loved ones in danger.
It does need iterating just how awesome Kusyairy is and seeing him in another action role of late with the fruition of his most recent biopictoral Gayong entries in his wake. Plus, Teh is exceptional at what he does when he’s handed an action movie script, delivering some of the best action in recent memory to come out of Malaysia alongside maybe a few other notable directors I can think of from the top of my head.
To add, that acknowledgement with Chelot in full swing comes with talk of the film’s history-making milestone with a five-minute and 19-second one-take action sequence, reported to be a first in a Malaysian production. That’s an interesting bookmark, a notable challenge to anyone inclined to think they can do better. Any takers?
