There have been several treatments in just over two decades of late Wing Chun grandmaster Ip Man’s life on the big screen. Of course, Wilson Yip reigned supreme in that area by 2013 with two Donnie Yen headliners at the time and with this, it wasn’t too clear if director Herman Yau’s own rivaling movie in 2013 would stand the test of time.
That, it has, and much to the favor of fans as a hit all its own with none other than actor Anthony Wong owning up to the role despite the unlikely nature of his casting, and being proficient in martial arts himself and training a year before filming was a certain plus. That film, Ip Man: The Final Fight, is now the subject of a U.K. re-release courtesy of Cine Asia with a VoD date set for June 5 and a DVD and Blu-Ray release date stamped for June 12.
