2019 is flying the flag for a new year of action on television with Cinemax staking its claim with period action drama series, Warrior. Birthed as the long-standing brainchild of the late Bruce Lee, the concept has since been brought to fruition by series creator Jonathan Tropper (Banshee), and exec producers Shannon Lee and Fast franchise helmer Justin Lin.
Enter actor Andrew Koji who now brings us a fresh first look at the role of Ah Sahm, newly arrived to San Francisco in the late 1800s and ready to throwdown with a riotous bunch of axe-wiedling gangsters. If this is your first time seeing Koji in action, you’re actually in for a real treat – and you needn’t look further than in the right places for his shortfilm work, proving he’s got both the acting AND screenfighting departments.
Inspired by an idea from martial-arts legend Bruce Lee, this gritty, action-packed crime drama is set during the brutal Tong Wars of San Francisco’s Chinatown in the second half of the 19th century. Filming in Cape Town, South Africa, it follows a martial arts prodigy who immigrates from China to San Francisco under mysterious circumstances, and becomes a hatchet man for one of Chinatown’s most powerful organized crime families.
Koji is joined by Christian McKay as Samuel Blake, Dean Jagger as Dan Leary, Dianne Doan as Mai Ling, Banshee co-star as Hoon Lee as Wang Chao, Jason Tobin as Young Jun, Joanna Vanderham as Penelope Blake, The Night Comes For Us star Joe Taslim as Li Yong, Kieran Bew as “Big Bill” O’Hara, Langley Kirkwood as Walter Buckley, Olivia Cheng as Ah Toy, Perry Yung as Father Jun, Rich Ting and Tom Weston-Jones as Richard Lee among the show’s larger cast.
Assaf Bernstein is one of four directors of the show, and helmed the pilot which will air on a date to be announced.
