DC Comics's DARK UNIVERSE Rolls Cameras Next Year

The Tracking Board reports that Scott Rudin is officially spearheading efforts toward the long-awaited adaptation of DC Comics property, Justice League Dark. Tentatively titled Dark Universe, the project was initially up for an earlier production start with Guillermo Del Toro up to direct until his obligations toward Pacific Rim 2 presided at the time.

Reportedly aiming to film next year and take on the same tone as David Ayer’s own upcoming DC movie, Suicide Squad, the film will center on occult detective John Constatine who assembles an enigmatic and paranormal team of heroes to investigate a madman bent on earth’s destruction following the theft of a number of tombs. Del Toro is staying on to produce while Warner Bros. sets out in search of a director.
The film marks just the latest in a currently growing phase of respective cinematic and television universes, with the addition of a Booster Gold/Blue Beetle project in the fray. The film also bookmarks the latest return of the Constantine character following a short stint on NBC based on its Vertigo appearance in 1985.
Dark Universe is the latest DC vehicle at Warner Bros. which will also branch from its current canon leading up to the Justice League films in the next several years. Stay tuned!
